![]() Like the youngster who looks at MI1-2's pixelated art and thinks "I don't play old games!" before actually playing and loving those games, we're bound to moan and complain until we actually play Return. But worthwhile experiences are always new and unfamiliar. There's many of us expressing doubts over Return's art style, and can you blame us? We expected to go back to the old, and we're presented with something new and unfamiliar. There's no question that criticism is always a necessary part of the creative process. But that doesn't mean you should let them spoil it for you - not least because this must be an immense creative undertaking, not just in the amount of work but in the steady-handedness it takes to come back to a decades-old project and get it right. Now, many people in the audience seem to have spoiled that trip for themselves already. (Am I indirectly calling you a zombie pirate? If you find it funny, why yes I am!) We want you to put us under a spell and make us feel like we're kids again, off to become mighty pirates. It's always been about returning to that illusory theme park that is childhood. Returning to Monkey Island has always been about returning to the feeling we had when we read Treasure Island, watched Pirates of the Caribbean or played Sid Meier's Pirates! for the first time. ![]() But I thought I'd put some thoughts into words, to try and be more vocal than the more toxic elements you've run into, and which don't represent the rest of us fans, differing art tastes or not. It's very bizarre to have to defend what I think is one of the best fan communities out there. We learned today that you shut down the Grumpy Gamer blog after a barrage of abusive comments.
